Overview
The Dune Trouser is a wide-leg pant with a fitted, high waistband and front pleats that release into a generous, straight leg. The silhouette stays relaxed through the hip and thigh, with a long, uninterrupted line down to the floor — no taper, no break, just clean volume.
Front pleats add ease at the top of the leg while keeping the waistband fitted and smooth, with a classic fly-front closure and belt loops. Made up here in a mid-weight linen with a soft, slightly crisp hand that lets the pleats hold their shape without going stiff.
Best suited for confident beginners to intermediate sewists — the main techniques are the fly-front zipper, pleats, and a fitted waistband, all straightforward once you've done them once. Works well in linen, cotton twill, or any mid-weight woven with enough body to keep the wide leg from collapsing.
Recommended fabrics:
Linen, cotton twill, mid-weight cotton, tencel, lightweight denim, gabardine
Look for something with a bit of body and drape — enough structure to hold the pleats crisp at the waist, but soft enough to let the wide leg move and swing rather than stand stiff like a board. Avoid anything too lightweight or sheer (like voile or lawn), since the leg will lose its shape and cling instead of falling cleanly.
