Overview
This wrap skirt closes with a simple tie at the waist, no zippers or buttons needed. A cascading ruffle runs along the front wrap opening and continues into the asymmetric hem, giving it a high-low finish that's shorter at the front and dips longer at the back.
The waist sits at the natural waistline and the skirt falls into a relaxed midi length, with enough ease through the hip for easy movement. Made up here in a lightweight linen-blend, but it'll work equally well in rayon, crepe, or any soft, drapey woven — the ruffle needs a fabric with enough movement to cascade rather than stand stiff.
Wrap skirts like this are a good confident-beginner project: the main construction is straightforward, and the ruffle is the one technique worth practicing on a scrap first before cutting into your good fabric.
Recommended fabrics
Linen, linen-blend, rayon challis, crepe, viscose, lightweight cotton voile, tencel
Look for something soft and drapey with good movement — the ruffle needs fabric that cascades rather than holds its shape stiffly. Avoid anything too structured or stiff (like quilting cotton or twill), since it'll make the ruffle stand out awkwardly instead of flowing.
